Avon Aquathlon

2013

This year's event was run under extremely chilly conditions on 24th Mar 13, as the never ending winter still gripped much of the country.  A small but hardy group of competitors braved the conditions to make it a great day once again, with several novices taking on their first multi-sport event.  This year's chosed charity was Naomi House Children's Hospice and the tea and cake stall raised £93, thanks to Carole Fraser for baking and for everyone that gave generously.

The Avon Aquathlon took place on Sunday 11th Mar 12, in memory of last year's winner, Lewis Andrews, who tragically died in 2011.  A glorious Spring day on Salisbury Plain saw some highly competitive racing with a number of athletes aiming at the course record set by Lewis.  Everyone did incredibly well, some doing their first multisport event.  Donations were taken on the refreshments stall for the Lewis Andrews Foundation, and we raised an amazing £290.61, a big thankyou to all who attended in whatever capacity.  Winners were presented with their prizes from Lewis Andrew's mother and it was lovely to have many of the family in attendance.

2011

The inaugural Avon Aquathlon took place on Sunday 20th March at Durrington Leisure Centre, initial feedback was very positive and we hope to run more events in the future.

TriStars Nevis 2012

Shaun visited the Caribbean Islands of St Kitts and Nevis to deliver a week of training sessions for the TriStars race organisers, and compete in two major events whilst there.

The week started on 24th March with a very challenging 2.5 mile cross channel swim from St Kitts to Nevis.  The race usually goes the opposite way but to celebrate its 10th anniversary we swam the other way.  Those that know the course well were all surprised at how much harder it was going the opposite way across.  Shaun had no reference point being a 'newbie' but said it was the hardest swim he has done!

The week concluded with the Tri Star races with both the 33.3 and 111 formats being available to attract a variety of international, regional and local participants.  It was a great day of triathlon racing and the support on the course was great.
